Based in Marrickville on unceded Gadigal land, Offbeat is home to six affordable studios, the artist development programs ONE OFF TRAKS and UP NEXT, and our independent record label, in partnership with Xelon.
Offbeat was founded by artists who understood how difficult it can be to find affordable creative space, genuine collaboration and meaningful support without major backing or the right industry connections. So we built the kind of place we wanted to exist.
Everything we do is artist-led and grounded in what independent artists actually need: space to create, opportunities to collaborate, practical support to develop their work and pathways to release it into the world. We are particularly committed to creating greater access for artists and communities who have historically been underrepresented or excluded from traditional music industry structures.
As a social enterprise, the income we generate is reinvested into our space, programs and creative community. Our mission is to make it more possible for independent artists to create ambitious work, build sustainable practices and shape their own futures.

These walls house six music production studios, creative offices, a bright & welcoming event space with communal facilities and access to the gritty Faversham Laneway. Our rates are some of (if not the most) affordable around, we do not compromise on quality or comfort with our production rooms. We offer flexible resident memberships and once off hires, we’ll always try to accommodate your studio needs so please enquire. Most of all we aim to enhance a true community spirit within our walls.

At Offbeat Collective, our flexible production spaces cater to various studio needs, including an affordable room for daily hire or part-time residency. Ideal for musicians, producers, vocalists, podcasters, voice actors, and artists, it offers a comfortable, reliable creative environment. Just bring your laptop, plug in, and you're ready to go. Our facilities include high-speed NBN, a communal kitchen with coffee and tea, sitting areas, a bathroom, roller door access to Faversham laneway, and on-street parking.

OUR MISSION
Founded in 2021, Offbeat grew from our own experience of trying to sustain creative careers. Artists create enormous cultural and economic value, yet are often expected to work within systems that are expensive, inaccessible and disconnected from what they actually need.
We are an artist-led social enterprise. We use commerce as a tool to sustain culture, placing people and purpose ahead of profit. The income we generate is reinvested into keeping our studios affordable, developing our programs and creating meaningful opportunities for artists.
Our work is grounded in more than a decade across the music and creative industries, alongside our ongoing experience as working artists. We understand that the barriers to a creative life are not only creative—they are financial, structural and social. That is why we focus on practical support through professional space, long-term development, collaboration, releases and advocacy.
Our mission is to help independent artists build sustainable practices, retain agency over their work and continue creating on their own terms. We are here to make it easier for artists to keep going—and to ensure more of the people who create culture have a say in shaping it.
GIVING BACK
OUR INITIATIVES
ONE OFF TRAKS is an artist-led songwriting camp and development program for women, trans, non-binary, takatāpui, fa’afafine and gender-diverse artists, songwriters and producers.
Led by Jannah Beth, Minori Ueda, and Jamaica Moana, the program creates space for collaboration, experimentation and connection—particularly for creatives who remain underrepresented in writing and production rooms.
ONE OFF TRAKS is process-led rather than outcome-driven, giving artists the freedom to try something new, strengthen their practice and build lasting creative relationships. First held at Offbeat on unceded Gadigal land, the program expanded to Tāmaki Makaurau in 2026, connecting artists across Australia and Aotearoa.
ONE OFF TRAKS 2026 is supported by Creative Australia
UP NEXT is Offbeat’s annual artist development residency, supporting independent artists from the early stages of creation through to release and live presentation.
Each artist receives subsidised studio access, mentoring, project planning, release strategy and opportunities to present their work, with support shaped around their individual goals and the needs of their project.
Rather than pushing artists through a one-size-fits-all pathway, UP NEXT gives them time, practical resources and a trusted team around their work. The residency is designed to help artists strengthen both their creative practice and the foundations needed to sustain it beyond the program.
